I have a Hybrid Rose with two different types of blooms. The original blooms are pink and look like a normal rose. The new blooms look more like a Dog Rose and appear be growing on a sucker. BUT I have not seen anything on the internet that suggests that bloom will develop on a sucker. Can someone tell me what is going on?

Is the shoot coming from below the graft.
If it is, its a sucker.
If you let them grow big enough and long enough they will flower and take over the whole plant.

Funnily enough, I've just been reading a book on pruning roses - where they say just what Pete has said.

The book also says follow the sucker right back to where it starts and cut it off. Cut it at the soil surface and you get more breaking out underground.

I think there is also an anomaly called a 'sport' which can produce oddly shaped/coloured blooms.
I must say that pink bloom is gorgeous :wub2:.

I was getting around to mentioning sports but didn't want to confuse the issue.
I only have one rose and in the last three years it has produced pink instead of red flowers on one branch.

I must have pruned that part off though as it didn't show this year.
