I've been waiting for a delivery of mostly ornamental grasses. It arrived today, and is disappointing, to say the least.
I ordered Pennisetum sataceum 'Rubrum,' which is supposed to look like this:
    http://www.jparkers.co.uk/pennisetum-setaceum-rubrum-0003321c

But has arrived looking like this:
Maybe this is its 'winter state,' but given the state of the rest of the order, I am not filled with confidence, and can see no signs of life. How can I tell if it's dead, or just dormant?

I also ordered a collection of ornamental grasses, which is supposed to look like this:
    http://www.jparkers.co.uk/3-grass-ornamental-collection-1000739c

But in reality, looks like this:

(The variegated grass is OK - I haven't photographed that. These are supposedly 'Red Baron' and Avena Sempervivens, but there's no way of knowing which is which. They look roughly as unhealthy as each other.

I'm going to send these photos to JParkers, who I ordered them from. There was a shrub collection too, which looks pretty sick, but I think might survive.
I wondered if anyone could say whether the 'Rubrum' looks dead? And whether you think the other grasses might make it?
A disappointing order, in any case. :-(

Very disappointing TT . Hope they do buck up as they start to grow ( if they do start ). I really do think mail order plants should be the exception and not the rule . Although it is often difficult to find the plants you want at GC's or Nurseries.

Thats a joke, ask for a full refund including p&p and make sure you dont have to pay to return them if they ask. How they can ship this stuff out i dont know. Ive had similarly dissappointing orders from mail order places and wished I asked for my money back.

Yes, I quite agree, Harry. Ironically, I ordered these online because at the time, the garden centre I usually buy ornamental grasses from, had none on display and I had some combinations using grasses I wanted to pot up. However, I've waited so long for these sorry specimens that I dare say they would have their grasses out by now!
I won't be using Parkers again, but their catalogue was so deceptively beautiful!

Good afternoon I respectfully suggest that we all contact JParkers on behalf of our friend @TurnedThespian ,I am sure JParkers will soon put it right once they realise we are all gardeners and there's safety in numbers;)

I have sent off my email lets see what happens;):blue thumb:

Very disappointing TT...The Pennisetum doesn't look like there is any life in it although maybe it's early days. Also the other plants shouldn't have moss growing all over the surface either IMO,doesn't look like much care has been taken over them.I suggest you send them a polite Email with your concerns and photos and see if they are willing to rectify the problem:blue thumb:
I have had the same problem with other companies and to be fair they have been very helpful and sent replacement of better quality or had refunds...I'm waiting with baited breath to see if my replacement Roses are the right ones this time when they bloom, although almost a year has passed I haven't forgotten even if they have and they will get to know about it:old:

              I agree with Woo...Email on it way:thumbsup:

Well, I suppose on the bright side, if I wait 2-3 weeks and they ALL fail (including some others that I had a little more faith in), then I will kick up the most ALMIGHTY fuss!!!

I very rarely buy online, but if I did and I recieved those poorly looking specimens I would putting a rocket up Parkers. They look wrong in so many ways and regardless of how they grow on, I'd not settle for anything except a full refund.

Sorry you got that sort of service but sadly you are not alone and good luck.

First like to say that most pics of Parkers plants are photoshopped or similar.
Apart from T&M, I'd say they have dodgiest catalogue out there.

But having said that, these are grasses??????

Dont all"ornamental" grasses look rubbish at this time of year.
The pics they are showing you are summer time.

I'd be more inclined to inspect the roots.

I used them a few years ago, and had a very similar experience - - most of what was sent was dead or dying, and the following customer service was all but non-existent. Never again will they see a penny from me.

See, I'm not sure what these should look like at this time of year... Though I'm fairly sure they shouldn't look as terrible as they do. I have other ornamental grasses (including some bought at around the same time as these were ordered) that don't look as pitiful, even over winter. If they are such a seasonal product, I'm surprised they'd send them out instead of pre-ordering and sending out in season, as many other places do.
I think no matter how you look at it, they should be ashamed to send these out. Lesson learned, I won't use them again. Nobody in their right mind would pay for plants that look like these (even if they do recover).
