Anyone got any ideas? suggestions ?

If not for this year then next year maybe.

I think part of the magic of Christmas is when parents and kids work together to make Christmas decorations. Nowadays of course many people (including me to a large extent) just buy them.

Wife has done a paper chain out of foil wrapping paper. We also have some huge fir cones sprayed with metallic paint and suspended on strings. CL1.1 and I made those a few years ago.

I saw a demo in a museum where they oven dried slices of orange and strung them up. They were fragrant but also manipulated the light in a very pleasing way. I might try that.

    Any more ideas?

Either. I was initially asking about purely decorative creations but I'd be intrigued to learn of any.

If you add cinnamon sticks to your lemon string, the smell would be awesome :)

Although we bought the paper chains it is great fun making them with the small people.

There is always popcorn and cranberries --stringing them, and then tossing on an outside shrub/tree.

We always strung our indoor live tree with it. Here's me in the mid 70s with tree in background with real candy canes ... we have plastic ones now ... (and I still have that slip, which still fits ... )

                  The wreath on the gate...

Fir cones, tied with Rioja wire...

I use a lot of fir cones around the place. Some on the outside fence/gate, some in the hall, etc.
I've made little Christmas hats from a 1" band of toilet roll inners (if you can spare the money from the seeet peas!), and strips of red wool - idea from Pinterest. And of course, there's the homemade Christmas wreath!
(Sorry, only just spotted the typos!)
