    Evening All

As thoughts turn towards Christmas I have just posted about having Christmas Lawn Decorations at my Gardening Blog (http://www.gardeningcolumn.com)

Do you decorate your lawn or garden at Christmas or is it just not you?

    Take care

    Paul

We have nice out door lights all round front house nice white lights.

But debating about putting them up this yr as we are going to Florida for Christmas but as they are on a timer switch would good as a secure measure.

We don't 'do' outside Christmas decorations as yet, most are pretty tacky to said the least and some lazy people don't even bother to take them down at all so the lights etc. are on show all year round.

I'm sure if we are lucky to have grandchildren in the future we will change the back garden into a winter wonderland just for them...... until then we'll just stick to a smartly trimmed indoor tree and mantle surround.

It is said that America has the only society in the history of the world to go from barbarism to degeneracy without an intervening period of culture. When I see outside Christmas lights, I believe it. Tacky. (Or O MY GOD).

I usually just put some white light around a small tree.

In my opinion New York does fabulous christmas decorations, so over the top but we can't match them here, I like the way they have the trees decorated with blue lights, although that is getting quite popular here too.

I put them in the same category of gnomes. I have always said that if anyone puts a gnome in my garden I will use it for target practise.
    My outdoor decorations are....
    Viburnum bodnantense
    Christmas box
    Christmas rose
    Holly...with roots
and not forgetting ivy of course
+ several very realistic robins, they even bob up and down, sing and poop
no mistletoe, but am working on that.

I think there is nothing better than to drive or walk down a road at Christmas to see it lit up with all the different lights.
We live in a miserable world and this is the time to put a smile on peoples faces specially the children.
My Dad who is 80 belongs to a bereavement club and the people who go there who live on there own have said how it brightens their christmas to look out of the window to see the christmas lights brighten up the dark nights.
I have 3 young Grand children who love to see Nanny and Grandads house and garden lit up.
So I will again this year make the effort to decorate the inside and outside of the house.
    It's only for a few days .
If I can make someone smile and feel happy for Chistmas it will all be worth it.

We do not even have Indoor Christmas lights. And our grandchildren love coming here for the day. Mainly because they get presents and a wonderful feast. Mind if they did not come at all we probably would not bother much with the day at all. Bah, humbug. Scrooge only got it wrong in that he changed his mind about it!
It has gone far too commercial and lost all its meaning for most people.
As for outdoor lights. Pollution of the worst kind. I prefer to be able to see the stars!
Still, each to their own and do whatever gives you pleasure.
