I Have had Tinnitus for a number of years and as I understand the cause of my Tinnitus was being employed for 34 years in noisy conditions in the Chemical and Plastic Industry.

Recently the condition has got more Persistent/Louder .
I have attended my Doctor over the past 7 weeks.
I have had Ear drops.for some wax in my ears, (twice).
I have had my Ears Syringed.
I now have been issued with some tablets to make the loud sounds (more Liveable).
I have tried the loud ticking clock at my Bedside.
I have tried the personal Radio at bedtime, they only help slightly.

The Questions Are ( Are There Any Tinnitus Sufferers On G.C.?). and what do you do to Alleviate The Condition?). Thank You.:help:.

My gran suffered quite badly with tinnitus - years of working with looms and sewing machines apparently; anyway, one of the only things that got her some peace was having a radio on with white noise only - I believe it was something to do with the 'toneless' noise that sort of cancelled out the tinnitus.

There are a few fellow sufferers on here. I have had it for 7/8 years now after a trip to the cinema (I will never go in one again).
Mine is a high pitched hissing noise but is bearable, mainly in the left ear, I have had no treatment as I was told that nothing really works. I am sorry to hear that it has got worse, I can't offer any extra advice and I assume your GP hasn't offered any other treatment than the tablets (which do what?).

I suffer from Tinnitus, I'm tone deaf (that's my exsuse) i get ringing in the ear and i also hear the noise from the hearing test, i have not had a test for 20+ years but still hear it every now and then
I do seem to get it worst when i have a cold and my glans are playing up, i think my problem is the tubes for draining the fluids, i have to close my mouth and hold my nose and blow and my ears do a pob now and then and i can hear better (just like when you go up a moutain and the pressure make your ears pob) I try to keep as heathy as pos and get on with life, well that's me

Because of my tone deafness, since early childhood, my spelling is not very good, it's how i hear the words

I've got it at a low bearable level, as a result of being in noisy tractor cabs for years with no ear-defenders. My elder brother has gone the same way, he also blames working in really noisy cabs for years. He now uses hearing aids and I think I'll be going down that same route.

Over Christmas I used a power tool for a few minutes and forgot about ear defenders  it took several days for my hearing to recover, I think once it's been damaged anything on top really makes it worse. So do your best to keep away from anything excessive.

I've started getting bouts of it at the tender age of 27, too much nightclub drum n bass and too much DJing with headphones on full blast. My brother has had to start wearing ear plugs when he goes to a night club now as the ringing lasts for days and days.

I have heard you can play white noise from, say, an mp3 player under your pillow at night to distract you from it.

I think my "hissing/white noise " came about through biking. I wear hearing instruments which takes it away completely,

I can fully sympathize with you music as I have suffered with the condition for years and have never been to see the Dr about it as like you say there is nothing that can be done so in have just had to live with it.:frown:

At the moment I have it quiet bad in my left ear, usually waking up with it ringing and then it just carries on until bedtime and me going to sleep.During the day I listen to the radio and found that the background noise helps me to take my mind off of it,but when I am in the house and it is quiet that is when I notice it more,so tend to have the radio on all day, then we have the telly on during the evening so don't tend to notice it.

I worked in factories all my life and I think the noise from the machinery has caused the damage because it is only recently that company's thought about getting us to use ear defenders.

Going to weddings where the music is deafening doesn't help as my hearing seems to have quiet sensitive of late and I can't even stand the noise of the helicopters that fly overhead or The Blades when they practise doing their loop de loops over the village or allotment when I go over there.

The person who finds a cure for this horrible condition will be very wealthy,if indeed a cure is ever found:sad:
