Hi everyone. I’ve just joined. Hope I’m in the right forum for this. Has anyone ever seen a double headed Lupin? Well i have one. Perhaps a genetic fault? But this is it’s third year and first doing the double headed thing.

It is a thing called fasciation. It happens when there is some structural damage to the growing point of the stem and another shoot begins to grow bundled with the first. Sadly it is not genetic so it does not normally repeat itself next year.
Strangely some years ago almost every Dandelion on the lane where we lived was fasciated in this way.

The term comes from the Latin for a bundle of twigs, fascis. The same root for Fascism as the Italian party used a bundle of twigs as an emblem.
