Dumped orchids help please

I've never had much luck getting them Kalanchoes back into flower again.
In my mind they are a disposable houseplant and should be replaced once past their best.

The orchids however are long term and will flower even better in years to come if treated right.

 

I personally would not give a Kalanchoe house room. They were selling them off in Morrisons 25p after Christmas, and I cannot normally walk away from a price reduced plant, but left them alone.

 

This fantastic Joolz you well deserve this .

And I am going to be following their growing progress.

Not sure about the roses but as for the orchids they are easy to get reblooms.

The Phalaenopsis on the right looks ok.
The one on the left has some yellowing which could mean some sort of fungus or bacterial rot has set in

Be careful with which "orchod compost" you buy. Try and get pure bark. Some might contain some sort of soil which you don't want for these epiphytic types.

 

Thanks sirius,i went to B&Q today but i could only see houseplant compost so i need to go to wicks to see if they have any,i didnt think to look outside in B&Q for orchid bark? i asked the woman on the till but she looked at me like id gone out so i just paid for my stuff and left.
I did trim the dead over grown roots off after reading to pull them off on google search? Also it said not to pot up as they like being snug? but some roots have come through the bottom of the pots,should i look for deeper pots for them?? any advice welcome
