As per usual I have a number of pots filled with 3 x pelargoniums bought this spring. I have a FlowerFairy one, a Maverick, one nameless F1, a Pac F1. Can't get my head around all these meaningless brand names, anyway. Most of the labels specify a height of 10 to 12", except for the FlowerFairy one which doesn't give a height.

All of them, so far, are struggling to top 6", and several are already in full flower so I'm assuming they might not bother getting any higher. As I can't abide a dumpy plant, I'm not too happy. I've bought them from the same supplier for years and they've always developed a nice big bush before.

Do you think I'm not giving them enough time? In the old days pelargoniums used to be able to get to 2', didn't they?

Funny you should post this - I have grown half a dozen Maverick pelargoniums, and was thinking the other day that they are dumpy looking wee things - no flowers on mine yet, so I suppose there is time yet :dunno:

We have some pink ones in the borders at work, and they are dumpy too, and are starting to flower - wonder if its a symptom of the spring this year?

Dunno- do you think they're bred short as this is what "the public" want? Horrid little bedding things?

Possibly - the question then would be, who are "the public" that want these stumpy wee things?

Or maybe they're just lazy. The pelargoniums, not the public.
