I get my DVD'S on rental from L---F---.
Sometimes I'm disappointed but I think that's just because I've chosen rubbish.
What would you recommend as a good film ? And why?

Oh this is a good thread Alice. My preference is for a good drama as opposed to the modern day action films where every scene something seems to be blowing up, with loads of special effects!!! Can't be bothered with those.
My favourites among my DVD collection are:

    Veronica Guerin
    Unfaithful
    Midnight Express
    The Last Castle
    A Perfect Murder
    The Debt Collector
    The Pianist
    Goodfellas - gangster
    Scarface - gangster
    Casino - gangster

These are all good drama films.

Well, thanks for that Gemini. I prefer a good drama too.
Some of the action films leave me feeling I must be a bit thick - can't figure out what's going on or why
Sometimes I think it's not about anything except BIFF ! BANG ! POW! Just a fancy Beano. But some people did like the Beano.

Yes, loved Notes on a Scandal as it also has Judi Dench in it who I also like, but thought the lad she got involved with was far far too young looking!!! you would be more inclined to check that he had washed behind his ears!!!! :hehe:

Well YES Gemini, the age of the lad seems a bit implausable but if you look at the news and what some female teachers are getting struck off for - maybe not !

If you like Judi Dench then see Mrs Brown if you've missed out on it.

Ziggy, did you enjoy those films? I would have thought they were Chic Flicks and not your thing at all.

It's quite rare for the whole family to tolerate the same film, but we all enjoyed the following:-

Cinema Paradiso (Italian with English subtitles; some would say too sentimental but we all loved it.)
Elizabeth (Cate Blanchett doing the Virgin Queen rather well) and the sequel Elizabeth the Golden Age, which also features a very Scottish Mary Queen of Scots - I think she'd probably have been more likely to have a French accent, but never mind.

.. forgot to mention Chocolat with Johnny Depp and Juliette Binoche. Chocolate, a whiff of magic and a beautiful French village.
