I got this one, 64Gb is about the smallest I would say. It provides enough space for a week of my commuting. The oldest videos then get overwritten:

Well I’ve just ordered a cam after a very close go today from a driver who did a u turn on a junction and came out in front of me and I had to swerve like crazy to miss them. Thankfully he stopped as I was around 15ft from him as he pulled out and even with the swerve he would have caught my side. No harm done but it reminded me to get one.
I’ve gone for a Blackvue so I’m hoping it’s going to be good.

You are right, should have fitted one a long time ago.

All fitted, it’s the BlackVue dr750s and it was dead easy to set up. I’ve just used my old cig lighter adapter and discovered its on all the time! Must remember to unplug it as I don’t want a flat battery.
Thanks again for everyone’s help :ThankYou:

I love spending other peoples money. To avoid the flat battery, hard wire with this. It switches the unit off at a preset (adjustable) voltage https://www.amazon.co.uk/BlackVue-P...words=dr750s&qid=1565426132&s=gateway&sr=8-14

Blimey, I hate to say it, but that technology is built into the Nextbase. If I switched the cigarette lighter socket that I use for the camera it would be permanently powered and then go to sleep at the appropriate time.

I found the magic box online but I’m tempted to go with their large battery which should give about 24hrs run time and maybe the cloud service but I want to try the free cloud section first to see how it goes.
I’ve a Philips hue sensor in the van at the moment that turns on lights if movement is detected. It was the cheapest way and an easy option to give some protection.

Is that at a set time period rather than voltage?

I think that the reason that the blackvue doesn't go to sleep is that it will save the footage before and after an impact when the vehicle is parked up.

Got the cloud to work, Ive a mesh system at home and had to create a guest network on the 2.4 for it to join. Tried an upload and nice and quick and I’ve got to set it up on my router for allocation under the QoS.
I want to try out the movement detection and upload event at some point today in parking mode. All going though.
So far it’s working great and if the security side works I’ll be happy.

Yes, I think it is 3 or 4 minutes, but it must voltage sense to know when to go off I would presume. I haven't tried it, as I have mine connected to the rear socket in my car which is ignition switched - good as it would be to have a camera that came on in the event of an impact, anything that is less than the norm voltage wise on my type of car is really bad news as they are hyper-sensitive electrically.

                        A little update.
It seems unlike many cams the BlackVue requires 12volts and I’ve looked at hard wiring both in fuse and on the OBD port but usb power banks can’t do the job.
I’ve looked at BlackVue’s batteries, the B112 3000mA, 12 plus hours and a nice £159 and their B124 6000mA, around 30 hours for £260. All based on a single camera.
Both charge as you drive then I would unplug from cig lighter and the parking mode would be supplied by the battery.
Went off to read up as it would be nice to find a battery cheaper and with a better run time and found this.
                        https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00YP823NA/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A1P6PDCPA5PRQK&psc=1
50000mA for £119 and has a 12volt output so a simple cig adaptor is needed at £6.
All purchased and should give me a heck of a lot of run time in parking mode without worrying about battery or cam shutting down.
I’ve doubled checked the min draw on the powerbank before shutdown and the draw from the cam and it’s in spec so should keep the power going. Just have to be mindful of temps in the real hot weather.

So far parking mode is working well, captures an event and with my Wi-fi uploads to cloud and I get a warning on my iPad. Movement detection works well too and I get a warning on app, it seems to buffer and only records when needed too.

46C3B881-BDF7-46FE-8376-F41DA2871830.jpeg The battery has arrived and it’s plugged in. Should supply power for days in parking mode.
Saves on the car battery and a nice simple solution that’s cheaper than their own batteries and a lot more power.
I’ve tucked it under the seat out of sight in my old van.
Now all I need is a security cam to over look the van. We are getting sadly lots of problems round here at the moment and this morning there are beer cans all over the place and police are on the other end of the estate after an eventful night.
