Hi. I'm wondering if anybody here does any at home activities to supplement their income. My income is currently lower than it ought to be at this time so i need to look into ways to earn money but not lose my existing business.

Its not a subject I wanted to bring up but I'm hoping that by presenting it this way I will get a greater variety of ideas than otherwise.

I appreciate direct links are forbidden so just pointers please for now. I will get Xmas out of the way and then start in ernest in the New Year,

    G.

Lots of us on here do some surveys, @Jack Sparrow - i am sure some people can send you referrals to sign up to! They pay out in PayPal, bank transfer or Amazon (or loads of other kinds of credits) so it can be worth doing if you have some time on your hands! Hope that helps a little bit!

        Hi,

As someone who is able to get out and about and has transport, things like being an agent for Betterware, Kleeneze , First Utility etc etc seem obvious choices.

They are part time jobs you can devote as much or as little time as you like, depending on the rewards you are after.

Not done them myself but a close friend has done the first two , Kleeneze having more potential in his opinion.

I've sent you a PM @Jack Sparrow :dbgrtmb:

I think everyone is feeling the pinch this year to be honest - Mrs C and I were only saying yesterday how it really doesn't feel like Christmas is nearly upon us, and there also seems to be less Christmas adverts on the TV this year.

I did Betterware years ago, and for the amount of work involved, it wasn't really worth doing - probably even less so nowadays when people can just buy online.

How about starting something like houseplant sitter. Lots of people go on vacations and need someone to water their indoor/outdoor plants. Yes, it would take you out of the house but since you are on the road already, maybe you could work many of those stops into your lunch breaks?

And advertise that you DO know a thing or two about plants. Not heavy gardening work but watering and being watchful whilst people take vacations.

This could spin into a year round extra income.

I know I was afraid to go anywhere until my son got interested in gardening and is now willing to stop by. And I think youll find lots here who have a: unhelpful neighbours b: clutzy relatives or c: forgetful friends. All of which give you a niche.

I think most people would rather just buy auto watering systems than pay someone to go and water their plants and hope they don't end up robbing them!

What is your current business? Why do you need to stay at home? Kids? Pets?

Nonsense! Who is going to run an auto watering system to the nice African violet in their living room or whatever other plants they keep!!

I would look at his description ...

                Useful input there Lori.

Understanding what the OP does will help with advice on supplementing income. Obviously.

I think you're looking at offering a house/pet-sitting service rather than plants.

Many, many moons ago I was in HR for Hozelock. They used to do 'outwork' in the busy season and lots of us office folk would take jeans/tee shirts to work, change at our 'end of office hours' and go into the factory for 3/4 hours. I used to get up and go in crack of dawn Saturdays/Sundays and be home before t'other half got up! :hate-shocked: Usually worked on the spring line. Then I would have boxes of outwork delivered home (took up the entire living room:yikes:). T'other half liked doing it too! Home we would put those thingies on the end of the tubes in spray bottles. Made thousands, didn't need the money, invested it all and had fun in the meantime.

Look up 'outwork' in your local area.

Gardening? Maybe not so much at this time of year.

I saw someone advertising in my local rag offering to come around and identify all the plants in your garden and provide care advice for £200 - easy work if you could find it.

That's a good idea , most people do not have any idea of the range of plants they have. Just take a few photos and put them on our ID section for Silver Surfer :snorky::blue thumb:

Due to a particular set of circumstances I now find myself worse off each month by a fairly substantial amount of money. I have been thinking about pet/house sitting, painting/decorating. Wondering about a flower pot service, ie, aimed at those who like them but don't want to do it themselves and flower arrangements are so easy to do in pots ( haven't put enough thought into it yet ). I saw an ad when I lived down south for someone who was offering a errand service to elderly or housebound people, such as shopping, taking someone to appointments, house cleaning, etc. I thought at the time it was a good idea. Good luck to you G with whatever you decide on :)

Not sure how well that would go domestically but a lot of companies do like to have large arrangements for their reception desks and some restaurants also like them. They need to be large and impressive and things that last at least a fortnight (possibly a month). They tend to be willing to pay good money for it but it depends on your access to the plant material.
