Sorry, Getting my cloth cap on at the moment.

But this one has been hanging around for three days now.
Appears to have rings on both legs, on blue one white.
Cant get close, it wont let me.

Is it a lost homing pidgeon.

Yes it is Pete. Only homing pigeons have rings on. The fact he's with you in mid Kent suggests he may be a French or European bird that couldn't make it back across the channel while racing, he's probably exhausted.

My brother has racing pigeons, so I know a bit about them. He probably didn't have the energy to fly on so if you can give him some food and water for a couple of days he is likely to go. You can feed him things like bird seed or soup mix....lentils, barley, rice etc. but not bread. If you want to try and catch him, put the grain in an open box and shake it gently, most racing pigeons tend to respond to that and may come down to it. It's a trick owners use when a bird doesn't want to come into the pigeon loft. Whether you'll be able to catch him is another matter.

Also if you can get the numbers from the rings, I can, via my brother locate the owner for you. Some rings have telephone numbers on but all birds will carry a ring with a registration number. :)

My brother doesn't, each to their own I suppose. :) What's the point in stamping a birds wing with owner details. If the bird gets lost racing then there's no point in keeping it anyway.

OK, if he is still around tomorrow evening I'll try to see if I can get the numbers off the rings.

I'm trying to feed it, but the local pigeon population are pretty aggressive.
So any food gets to them first.

Yep he sits on the roof, with most of the local population.
I'm doing my best not to feed pigeon, they tend to be a nightmare, so only use seed in a feeder and fat balls, along with peanuts in a feeder.

If the bird is lost or just knackered the owner will probably not want it back as Sheal said.

Sorry Strongy but I didn't say that. Some of these racing pigeons are worth thousands of pounds and the owners would be happy to get them back. It may be this particular bird just couldn't make the flight through lack of energy. Birds from Europe can be taken to Scotland to fly home, it's a long flight on an empty stomach.

Pete if it's a problem trying to feed it because of the other birds then don't bother. It may just clear off in a couple of days.
