    Just noticed on Direct Line Insurance, that they cover your liability for someone tripping over your charging cable:biggrin:

    Do I see a new insurance scam coming along along similar lines to whiplash.

    I shall certainly try tripping over any charging cables I see lying around.:roflol:

              Those few charging points at supermarkets are an irrelevance as the more EV's that are purchased the more charging points would be needed. Our Tesco can take hundreds of parked cars and the likelihood of you being able to access one of the three points whilst shopping is negligible even though not that many people own EV's yet.

                Surely at some point there will need to be about 50% of the spaces with chargers and then I forsee fights breaking out if you don't have an EV and can't find a parking space.

                The other thing is will EV users park on chargers if there are no other spaces even if they don't need a charge.
                It's going to be a nightmare IMO.

                  Charging points at your local supermarket are a marketing gag and nothing more. At the moment they are sufficient because the number of EVs are pretty low overall.

                  On the other hand, the number of people who need an emergency load because they wouldn't get home otherwise is very close to zero as well. Nobody takes an EV with 1.5% of charge left to the shopping mall. Its nice to get some free electricity but if the Charging points are full you move on

                    I just see a lot more planning required with an EV.
                    I usually fill up when I go to the supermarket. :biggrin:

                    Let's go down the coast, its nice day, oh hang on, not sure the car is fully charged, perhaps we could go in a couple of hours. :biggrin:

                      I have topped up at a supermarket once, they are not free here in the uk, if anything they are much more expensive than my home charger. They are probably a last resort hence why they are hardly used.

                        I would not even contemplate buying a new car, due to dealers selling above the MSRP. With high demand and the shortage of semiconductors, car dealers are selling new and used cars above ticket price.

                        In the States they reckon that of all new cars registered in January 2022, 82% were over ticket price.

                          That is another reason that my eye is looking at PHEV's at the moment - my thinking is that one of those could be a gateway into EV running around town, whilst still having the petrol engine for longer runs. Don't get me wrong, my diesel is fantastic and were it not for the worries about emissions rules/charges that may appear in the future, I would keep it. However, I would not only have to commit to the next 18-20 months but then a further 3 or 4 years thereafter to buy it outright. I genuinely worry that I'd end up getting stung purely because it is diesel and where I live.

                            I saw a report that said most private owners of PHEVs replace them with EVs. It didn't say if the remainder stayed with PHEV or went back to ICE.
