I came across this article on the BBC technology site today and it brought back memories from over 30 years ago when the original version was released for the BBC computer.
I was on secondment to introduce computing to schools in our region and working very long hours but Tuesday evenings we set aside for "R&D" which to some extent involved playing Elite as well as cracking the protection on it!

I remember it, but not on the BBC computer (would that be the very early Model A, the more common Model B, or the top of the range BBC Master?).

I had it for the Amiga 500. I might have had it for my Amstrad CPC 464 but I'm not sure if I'm remembering that right.

Yes!! I wasn't very good though, I often got fed up & ended up getting destroyed by the police after not being able to dock in the space station properly... My dad was much better at this :) Ours was on the C64 :)

Ah, the good old BBC range.....

I had quite a few of the Microvitec CUB monitors pass over my bench many moons ago, and went on to bigger and better things - - I was 'the' guy in our organisation for fitting 1mb RAM upgrades to Commodore Amiga don't you know :snork: 1mb!

By the time I was getting out of the computer rat-race  I was telling customers that they shouldn't bother fitting anything more than 64mb of RAM, as nothing would ever use that amount of RAM (for perspective, my phone currently has 16Gb of storage, and I have a database currently in design which is sitting around 1.2Gb with no data in it!)

Sons played Elite on the BBC machine for ages. They had a cheat which allowed them to Dock and gave them unlimited funds.
Now my game was Chucky Egg. Got so good at it that I reached 99,999 and a level where you died instantly the screen appeared. Only did it to appear cool (or whatever the word was) for my Class.
Also played Repton 3 again for the same reason.

There is a version of Chucky egg for the PC, but I could not find a set of keys that worked it properly and my hand eye co-ordination is no good these days.

I'd love to have that back. I've got an old Amiga 500+ & 1200 somewhere, maybe it's still available for one of those...

I remember Elite for the Amiga but I'm not sure it would have worked on the A1200, I spent tooooo many hours on Lemmings, we even had that on a Spectrum +3!

Aaaah Lemmings! Loved that, I too spent far too much time on that :)

I seem to remember Elite on the A500? It's been a while ;)

Ah, the Atari, I remember it fondly. What was that game I played? Eye of the beholder?
