I've been getting fed up recently shelling out money on ink cartridges for my cheap Epson printer (£20 SX130 from Argos) and then hearing unused ink splosh around in the old cartridges when there replaced

so I scoured the internet until I came upon this:

    ciss_Epson_SX130_2_3.jpg

It's called a Continuous Ink System basically it has a huge reservoir of ink connected to some modified standard cartridges which creates a vacuum to allow ink to steadily flow into the cartridges when needed and it's going to save me a fortune! :dancy: it took maybe 20 minutes to install and I've already printed tons of stuff, my ones a little different to the one pictured above but it was only £25 in comparison to the one above which is nearer £60

It seems quite interesting but I seem to be able to buy my cartridges so cheaply that I don't think I would want to bother (not very mechanically minded).

The last lot of cartridges for my Epson cost me just under £24 for 18. Admittedly some still had a little ink in them but at £1.33 each I can't be bothered. :)

Carl that looks good but like Shiney, and not doing a huge amount of printing, I would rather buy cheap cartridges for my Lexmark. £1.33 each sounds just about my price

Shiney where do you get your Epson cartridges? My son is always saying how
expensive they are for his Epson, don't know what model he has, but I am sure he
would like to try some cheap ones.

            Hi jjordie,
Each time I need more I Google it and look at all the deals. The companies change their offers all the time and the offers vary. With some you can buy packs with black and all the colours and others sell a number of blacks, or colours on their own.

The last time we bought we got the ink through one of the ads on Amazon and the time before it was through a business selling on ebay. I just had a quick look and her are just a couple of offers:-

I haven't bothered to read all the details - which I'm sure you would do.

Haven't bought any of these super cheap cartridges yet but I will do as soon as I need more ink but I offered to buy some for my grand-daughter. She however politely declined saying that although she had never tried any she was told that cheap ink cartridges clogged the printers. Have you ever found this happening with any of the inks you have bought? I ask although I am sure you wouldn't use them if there was a problem.

That sounds like the usual spiel you get from shops which only sell original inks at £40 a set :mute: I've never found that compatible ink cartridges clogged up the print heads  and if it does you just run a cleaning cycle from the computer:) the amount of times I've brought a printer back from the rubbish bins where I live and connected it up and run a head alignment or a cleaning cycle only to have it print perfectly is mind boggling:rolleyespink:

              I agree, Aesculus :dbgrtmb:

It used to be said that they clog the heads but I think the printer manufacturers are not allowed to say that any more (doesn't stop the shop salesman saying it).

I used to, very occasionally, find that the printer wouldn't recognise the cartridge and, although the instructions with the cartridge says to ignore this, the printer wouldn't work. As I buy a batch of them at a time I just put another one in and then email the supplier. I've always been sent a replacement immediately.

I also run a cleaning cycle immediately I have put the new cartridge in the printer. It uses up some ink but at the price I get them I'm not bothered. One of my Epson printers must be close to 10 years old and the other close to 5 years - and they are both very cheap ones (like me :heehee:).

Thanks Aesculus and Shiney - just what I thought and it was probably the salesman who told grand-daughter that. She does design work which means quite a bit of printing which means quite a bit of ink required. I thought cheap cartridges would save her money.

If she does design work try and get her to see sense! the CISS system I linked to above also does pigment inks so her print quality would dramatically improve as well it would also last longer and not fade in the way that normal ink does :)
