17B6BA31-8214-4BE1-988A-B87BCFD5676A.jpeg I bought two of these from dobbies last year. They flowered like echinacea but with similarly thick stems.

The behaved in a quirky way as the flowers visible opened and closed each day, moving and reacting to the sunlight.

    Any ideas?

That looks more like Osteospermum. The flowers open and close.
