      The Chinese strike again!

Not quite so dangerous but I was warned off Mountfield lawnmowers when I was looking to buy five years ago. The salesman said at the time the engines were now produced in China and they're rubbish. I try to avoid buying anything Chinese now because of the high failure rate.

Very difficult these days, but yes where I possibly can I avoid them too.

It is virtually impossible to avoid 'made in China' these days, but I too try to avoid it when I can.

Not just for the obvious reason of notorious poor quality though. I'm not happy with the monopoly China has on manufacturing these days, or the environmental implications of pumping huge amounts of oil from half way round the world to Britain, where a Saudi owned company operating in Britain turns it into plastic pellets, which then go on a ship to China to be turned into plastic rubbish, before going back onto another ship to come back here again to be sold.

I also don't like that most developed nations are giving all their money to a nation with a dire record in human rights, environmental responsibility, and that has a long history, extending to present day, of being hellbent on conquest.

            Spot on clueless1.
Not to mention the blatant knock-offs of just about everything and intellectual property infringements with the full knowledge of the authorities.

Makes you wonder what they were using instead of plastic, metal perhaps?

The only surprise is that they went to the trouble to design the part and out-source the manufacture of it. There are plenty of these already available on every car made. And on almost all cars they are one of the few components to be 100% reliable. Respect for trying though.
That said, Aston Martin did a deal with Mercedes (last year I think?) in order to gain access to their engine and transmission technology.

At least some common sense prevailed at Aston Martin and they went to Mercedes and not to GWM, Geely (or similar) as a "cost cutting" exercise.
I have also just learnt that Volvo is now owned by the Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co., Ltd (Geely).

Good grief where will it end? :hate-shocked:
