Exacum affine

Sorry if this is in the wrong place, but I wonder if anyone knows where I can get seeds or plants of Exacum affine. I can't find anywhere that supplies it, and it used to be quite common at one time.

 

I was looking for some the other day Michael, I didn't try to hard but gave up in the end.
I used to grow it some years ago.
Great little compact pot plant.

 

They have them here, but not in stock, maybe you could give them a ring.

Yeah saw that on Mike, appears to be in India.

 

I did a good search for these seeds. Seems they have gone out of circulation. I used to grow lots of the plants back in the 60's

 

Gone out of fashion, like lots of nice plants.
I used to grow lots of Gloxinia from seed, rarely see them today being grown.

 

I used to grow Exacum every year for the flowering plant section of the Palm House in Weymouth in the 90's. When it was demolished and we moved to a new sight there was no need to grow them again. I seem to remember they were susceptible to wilt.

 

I tended to find they liked heat and sunshine to do well, but was obviously not growing on the same scale as you were.
I only ever grew them as an annual.

I remember Gloxinias @pete I haven't seen those for ages either.

I think it's silly plants going 'out of fashion'. You either like them or you don't. It shows how fickle people are.
There was a Fuchsia nursery near here but they gave up selling them and concentrated on other plants. The owner of the nursery told me it was because Fuchsias were out of fashion and not many people were buying them now. There are some varieties that I've lost and would like to replace but I just can't get them any more - very sad.

 

It's all down to making a fast buck nowadays.

 

Or surviving and not.
