Never mind the weather - anyone else sweltering under the heat of these petrol prices?

There is an e-petition and campaign to get the Government to do something about it.
    It's called FairFuelUK

So far, the e-petition has almost 70,000 signatures.
To get it discussed in the House of Commons 100,000 signatures are needed.
To make it an overwhelming campaign 1 million signatures are needed.

    You can help by

    Signing the e-petition

    Joining the campaign

Remember, it's not just the cost at the pump, these fuel prices affect every aspect of our housekeeping and business finances. No other country has to pay such high prices. Why should we?

you'd be wasting your time signing the petition IMHO ... nothing in life is 'fair'

fuel tax is critical to the UK to gain revenue .... helps to fund and fight all the wars we are currently engaged in

as a 'goodwill gesture', and to stem public outcry, they may drop the price by a penny or two but don't hold your breath, as it will increase again in a few weeks (just like the gas prices/energy bills when the cold sets)

I have to agree with dim to be honest.. We are & always have been one of the most heavily taxed nations.. We are 12th in the top 15 heavily taxed countries, but 8 out of the 15 most heavily taxed countries are also among the top 15 most thriving countries, so no, I cannot see the price of fuel come down as this is such a cash strapped government..!!

and sadly, the original BP oil spill has started leaking again, and there is another huge oil leak off the coast of scotland ... all 'hush hush' and not much said on the mainstream news, but headlines on most 'conspiracy' sites, with lots of 'whistle blowers' spilling the beans

couple that to the crashing stock market prices, and the recent sharp rise in the gold price, and looks like basics such as food/fuel/energy bills will all be on a sharp rise in the next few weeks/months

and it's the PTB (powers that be) that dictate the increases ... they dictate to the government and the government are merely spokesmen/puppets

works in cycles ... prices will drop again in spring .... but not by much ... I have been following this for years

I am afraid I too had heard about the oil leaks too dim, just the other day actually... Not good news at all as you say, but ultimately we will be our own downfall in this world I am afraid..
As you say there is a pattern to the rise & fall of prices I have seen that too..
I would love to see prices fall again, but those days are gone forever now I think... Nice while it lasted for most of us I am sure, but we cannot have something for nothing...

How did the possibility of the loss of 2% of available Oil (Libya) have such an effect on the price?
Last night it was reported that the Barrel price of Crude was to drop by up to 7%, based on the Rebels winning out against Gadhaffi.

The Government 70% tax could have a far greater effect. What chance of that - ZILCH!

it's a bit more complex .... Libya is on a 'sea' of oil, aswell as it is one of the last countries who are not overseen (and owned) by the world central bank ...

Asia Times Online :: Middle East News, Iraq, Iran current affairs

that is just a 'small' part of what is actually happening behind the scenes, but don't think that a gardening forum is the right place to go into detail...

        :D

All of which doesn't mean we should just roll over and accept it.
        We can but try.

a bit 'off topic' but still related to this thread:

those who want to know what's really happening in Libya with up to date news (from reliable sources who are on the ground) ... here is a link:

I'm not one to sign these kind of things in general as I tend to doubt whether anybody in control actually takes any notice of such petitions.
They are basically designed to make us feel we have a say, when we all know in reality, we dont.

But I signed it any way.

        Did I read it right?
It runs until Aug next year?

And they are proposing to scrap the 4p fuel hike in Jan:scratch:

No idea why the truckers are not protesting

Though I believe it would be good for the Country if HGV bona fide hauliers were allowed RED DIESEL, this would cut the cost of food and goods to consumers

There again the Gov would lose revenue so would have to find it elsewhere
at least we would only freeze to death and not die of starvation

If you are cold you can wrap up use blankets or exercise, you can not subsitute FOOD apart from us gardeners who will be able to feed ourselves
Well I will when I get DAI the plants how to book basics for beginners like I :-)

Start stockpiling the tins of food NOW
