A few years ago we rescued a rubber plant from lidl it was only a foot tall I re-potted it and changed the soil/compost mix.Even though it is looking healthy I dont give it special care but are concerned it will reach the ceiling soon it is now 6' how do I stunt its growth or top it out with causing it to bush out,please

 

You dont, you take cuttings

Although they dont really bush much if you cut them back.

Just lop it and reduce it to one shoot,if it should produce more than one.

 

Just be careful when you cut it that the sap (latex) doesn't drip our get on furnishings or your skin, it can stick and can cause a rash or at least itch.
use a pinch of compost to stop the flow.

 

You can just take the growing tip out Lazydog. If you want to stop side growth you can do the same to the side shoots too.

 

Cheers folks will take the top out any particular time of year,it seems to grow all the year around.

 

You can do it now, it won't make a lot of difference to the plant. Just be careful about the sap as Strongy pointed out.
