Fantastic shot Nik, how did you get it, are they in a nesting box?

I love looking at birds when I take my dogs out, we have a lot of Yellow Hammers and Skylarks in the fields around us.

We have got a box full of Blue Tits for the 2nd year running. No idea how many we have got, wish we could rig up a web cam like they do on Springwatch.

I have been told they always fledge early in the morning,so no doubt we shall miss them again.

    Fantastic photo Nik.

The nest is in a hollow branch in the apple tree. The branch is at chest height, and the nest is about 12" down from the opening. So the photo is not too difficult with an auto focussing camera. Just don't catch mum in there, she sounds like a hissing cobra.
We have grown Ivy up the tree to provide a "habitat" for birds and things. We think there are Blue Tits, Great Tits, Wrens, Robins, Gold Finches and a Pigeon nesting in it this year. No Sparrows, where have they gone?
I took the photo on Wednesday afternoon. The chicks were in there on Thursday evening, but it was empty this morning (Friday).

Thought they would be long - I always worry in case I scare mum away. Love the idea of ivy - I let it go a bit rampant in one corner of my garden up a white lilac - its close to the house, but still gets a fair few nesters. The tits have the nest boxes at the bottom of my woodland garden. I know one at least is being used - prolly the other two as well from the sounds when I go down there.

    Good time of year.
