I have a flu jab every year. My wife has booked the appointments. The inoculation takes seconds. Well worth the effort.

Last year I was also offered a "swine flu" jab by my doctor.
I turned it down and said "What do you think?" He said; "Nah! I'm not having one either!"

*My wife said she was surprised I turned it down, because she thought it would be appropriate.

*For any contributor lacking a sense of humour she meant it as a joke.

Digressing, many years ago when I was playing a lot of squash, I developed a problem with one of my knee joints. The doctor put me on the subsequently banned drug Opren. This initially was heralded as a "wonder drug" to control arthritis, I read that it had been trialled successfuly on rats and it cured my problem.
However, a lot of people developed sensitivity to light. I found I got a tingling sensation in my forearms but only in strong sunlight. It disappeared when I came off the drug, I've not had problems with the knee since. Sadly, the residual side effects even after over twenty years, mean some people who took the drug, even today have to stay out of the sun.
*My wife said she wasn't surprised it worked on me.

*that was another of her jokes.

It seems as though I'm the odd one out (no comments about the 'odd' part :hehe:) as I try never to have any jabs at all.

We don't have the flu jab or any vaccinations even when we go to out of the way places - unless they are compulsory. The only one we have had in the last twenty years is the yellow fever jab. We also try not to have any medicines if at all possible.

Our surgery are quite laid back about it and one of the doctors there also doesn't have any.

It's a choice we all have to make for ourselves.

I take low dosage statins. A year ago I had a cholesterol check and it was five point something, so my doctor prescribed them for me, six weeks after starting to take them it was down to two point seven. So I always have a "Full English" for lunch at the golf club once a week; "just to suppliment my obvious cholesterol deficiency."

I also take cologen tablets, they're supposed to be good for joints and skin. I don't get so many aches and pains since starting to take them.
Jessica Ennis takes them..... that's all we have in common!

I never had any innoculations as a child.

They use a "gun" for the flu jab, you wouldn't know you had one.

If you have ever had a real dose of flu, I think you would welcome the jab every year. Am also not a fan of medication but after various 'old age' problems including the mandatory by-pass op. I tend to view medication as a help and not a hindrance. By the by, being a child of the 30's - was very pleased to score a net 65 today at the golf club............

    Well done!

For those unaware, the aim of golfers is to eventually be able to "shoot your age." I need to be a bit older and more consistent than I am at present, to achieve this.

[align=left]I have never had flu which is probably why I have never bothered about having a jab. I am worried now if I have one that it might make me feel unwell and I can't risk that with 3 dogs to care for. :(
Why do you have to have it done every year?

I can only presume it's because the protection wears off.

It's certainly worth considering. I've never had any side effects.
Even if you experience some, they are nothing to be compared with actually getting flu.

Lot's of people say they had "the flu" when all they've had at worst, is a bad cold.
They say the test for flu is to offer you a £50 note at your feet. If you can pick it up it's yours. If you've got the flu, this would be impossible.

Who'd look after your dogs if you got the flu? and more importantly, who'd look after you?

That's because the flu viruses are evolving so quickly. What worked with last years viruses will not be effective on this years lot. **respect** to the tiny buggers. Outsmarting the full range of human science every year is pretty impressive.

I'm a doctorphobic, never go to see one and never take my Midget either unless something is absolutely necessary. Very luckily, my Midget (9) has superb health, I took her to see a nurse when we moved in 3 years ago to get her measured etc, never been there since.

For the flu jabs, my husband, who (just for the balance I think) is a medicophile, gets his every year. Anything available, he'll take it.

Have you noticed that the Pandemic hasn't really hit the headlines this year? Is it just "so last year" or has the swiney gone weaker?
