As my user name says, I live on a small offshore island, off the west coast of Ireland. Love gardening and as I have had to move around a fair amount have left lovely gardens behind me. Age and finance is limiting me now so I have a small patch carved out out here, on the north facing Atlantic shore. And an even smaller and very sheltered strip between gable and big gate where I crammed so many lovely flowers in last year and a few vegetables.
    Good to be here.

Thank you and yes. Well for me! But others visit... I have not been offisland for 15 months now as I could not replace my old car and am totally at ease over that. With the postal service and deliveries, life is grand and so peaceful..Listening to the tide breaking just behind where I live... Hey I was born in Lancashire; well Wigan which was Lancashire then

                Hi,

Bet you miss the Northern Soul on the Pier !

Think you are probably in one of the best places in the world at the moment with the virus moving around so fast !

As long as you can grow your own fruit and Veg you should be well safe - are you doing board and lodgings ? !

lol.... Not sure what you mean by Northern Soul...

Yes I am safe here. I came out here as I have CFS/ME and serious immune system damage so here I have lived increasingly a deep solitude. Now of course that is vital, and as even a cold could finish me? Not really alone as I have five, sorry six cats, all rescues . The internet is a great blessing. Lunch today included home grown Russian Kale...

Indeed yes. It is the winds that damage. Out here we have a micro climate as Atlantic systems hit us hard. The part at the back gets fairly withered, Last year was my first really full year for growing; peas and broad beans were my stars, and at the south facing front , simple cottage garden flowers, calendula and nasturtium for immediate effect.. gladioli and marguerites and peas and broad beans and sweet peas up the fence, Grew lupins from seed that are ready now to plant out. The calendula are still flowering.

@Islander77 I'd love to see some photos of your garden. As others have said, it must be quite a challenge.

@ricky101 the original pier was demolished sometime in the late 1920's or early 1930's. Well before Northern Soul arrived. I cant remember the exact year, only the trains running over it!:heehee:
