Forest pancy tree

    Hi I was bought one for my birthday in a very x large pot I have kept in the green house since early december but will bring out now its slightly geting warmer

    Any do's or dont's that I should know about I know it cost £70.00 and about 10 feet high so I want to get it right , two place I have available one is shaded and damp the other full sun and on the dry side

    Any advice appreciated

    Cercis siliquastrum I'm guessing, or it could be one of the other species, occidentalis maybe.

    As far as I know its totally hardy but probably prefers well drained soil, in full sun.

    Drought tolerant, so I'd go for the sunny site.

    Give it a stake, preferably a short one, but make sure the roots cant rock.

    Water well its first summer.

    Thats my thoughts, I'm sure a few others will add to them.

    My C siliquastrum is budding now ... I just love these trees. There's a road here going up into the mountains and they line the road for a few kilometers ... backed by various species of Acacias with their heavenly scent.

    A really nice tree, we planted one last year, so hoping it will start to take off this year.
