Hi Jiffy, I can't answer your question but, when you say your forsythia looks poorly, what does it look like ? I ask because, my forsythia which is a good 6/7ft high produced lots of flowers this spring but the last couple of days the flowers look as if they are wilting ! Is this too early to be finishing flowering ?

Completely random fun snippet of the day:

Forsythia was actually named in honour of William Forsyth a Scottish Botanist and one of the founding members of the RHS who incidentally is Bruce Forsyth's Great Grandfather

Nice to see you, to see you, nice!

Hiya I seem to think I read somewhere that you can take a cutting after it's finished flowering, although I'm not sure if this is hard or soft wood, or if anyone who has experience of taking cuttings from Forsythia would recommend otherwise. Obviously try not to take a cutting of any poorly looking bits.

I think its one of those shrubs that you can just cut a few pieces off and plant them in a shady spot.
    Some will root I'm sure.
If not try later, around August and leave all winter.

Most are coming to the end of their flowering season right now.
Is it me, or has Forsythia been flowering longer than usual this year?

Thank you all for your replys
Will have a go at just any sort of cuttings just to get some rooting through out the year, mine didn't flower at all, well 1 or 2 flowers, some stems have gone brown inside and some are still green, but it's in the shadey dry place, so i'm hope it's the dry hot March it did not like
