fountain help

Hi, Does anyone know if it is possible to paint a stone fountain. It must be 20yrs old at this stage and it looks the worst for wear.

 

Yep, wire brush off the old stuff. Put on two coats of masonry paint but water down the first coat.

 

Thanks kindredspirit. Masonry paint, is that like you would put on your house?

 

Exactly. What you would paint the concrete walls of a bungalow with.

Water down the first coat first. Don't know why that works but it helps the second coat stay on longer.

 

I think the first coat is watered down because more of it will be absorbed rather than staying on the surface. I painted a stone statue and was advised to give it a good soak before the first coat too.
