Oh WOO, I'm so jealous of you having that beautiful animal so close.

I would be thrilled to see a fox family in my garden.

    Lovely photograph :)

I hate to sound this note, but you might not be so happy with all the damage they will probably cause.
Being a person who loves animals even more than plants I put up with it when a mother and her cubs regularly ransacked my garden a couple of years ago, but I'm glad they moved on!

P.S. I think that wonderful Whitman poem deserves to be quoted in full !

    ANIMALS

I think I could turn and live with animals, they are
so placid and self - contain'd,
I stand and look at them long and long.

They do not sweat and whine about their condition,
They do not lie awake in the dark and weep for their sins,
They do not make me sick discussing their duty to God,
Not one is dissatisfied, not one is demented with the
    mania of owning things,
Not one kneels to another, nor to his kind that lived
    thousands of years ago,
Not one is respectable or unhappy over the whole earth.

Always good to read the poem in full again, thanks Jack. :)

I have over 50% of my garden put aside as rough and untidy so that any wildlife can do what it wants to in it! I have piles of cut down branches and old logs, areas where weeds and any wildflowers can do what they like - a wildlife garden is more important to me than a neat pristine show garden - plus it means I only have half of the hard work maintaining it!

I seriously don't think the addition of foxes would make it look any worse than it does sometimes anyway !!! ;) My lawn is more dandelion and celandines than grass anyway - and I try and encourage moss because I like it ! (Will I get thrown off GC for this?????:P)

I get an instant lift whenever I see our native wildlife though. I only have hedgehogs currently, which live and I believe hibernate in my garden.

Thinking about it, my only reservation would be the safety of my cats - not sure if the foxes would go for them and hurt them...

Oh WOO - thank you for my cup... it's the nicest thing I've ever won !

Firstly I'd like to thank my mum, my agent, my partner, my cats..... awful acceptance speech already, lets move on !!! ....:o :D

Woo - the photos are getting better - I love the luncheon meat shots so much.

Doesn't your fox just have the most beautiful face!

Just talking photographically for a sec, that bush in the background makes the perfect setting - nicely textured and allows the fox to stand out clearly in front of it, but the flower colour mirrors the lovely orangey/ginger of the fox's coat.

    Marvellous Woo :)

The foxes came to my garden when my cat was alive. Being a former stray he spent a lot of time out in the garden and they never hurt him. In fact, judging from a screech I heard one evening, he must have given one of the cubs a scratch when it tried to steal from his bowl of food which I'd left outside for him.

My next door neighbour favours a wild garden (!!) and a vixen was living there by, or underneath, his shed.
I buy her cheap dog food to put out and, although I haven't seen her for some months the food still disappears. Perhaps cats are taking it.
