Thanks Scrungee, got free seeds for Heinz and they are on their way. Whether I can make really tasty soup out of them is debateable!

I'll be growing some for a bit of fun and see what they're like for making tomato, basil, onion, garlic, peppers, courgette (carrot in winter) and red lentil soup, everything home grown (apart from the lentils), one of my favourites and inspired by this
http://newcoventgardensoup.com/soups/skinny-tomato-vegetables/ served with a couple of slices of warm homemade bread all for about 15p per person.

It states "approx. 10 seeds" on the packet, but the one I opened to check had 19 seeds.

It took 15 minutes, 12 mins 45 secs to watch the vid and another 2 mins 15 secs to go and sniff some of my tomato and Bay-Zil plants.

Terrible germination from my free seeds, out of 2 packets only 2 have sprouted and both of those have stunted leaves that have failed to burst through the seed casing. Knackered old stock from one of their previous promotions perhaps?

I sowed another 2 packets of the free 'Heinz' tomatoes, one lot have germinated but no sign of life from the others

I imagined that they were giving away the variety of tomato called 'Heinz', which is I think what the ketchup is made from. San Marzano isn't as exciting.

                Have now got ours.

Found last year's seed produced small plum toms when planted out in open ground, minimal seeds/juice and very suitable either for likes of slicing for non-soggy tomato filled rolls/baguettes/sandwiches or dehydrating.
