The programme was on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, it really did show how little the supermarkets wanted to know/help the situation.

Already am, I have seen the 'standard' chicks for myself near here several years ago when asked by the farmer?...to do welding repairs. I just couldn't stay in the building and was nearly sick at the sight of chicks being dragged around and around having been caught up in the automatic feeding coveyor that ran along the floor. The farmer is a member of a famous Irish whisky maker and I've never touched the named brand since!
He was also prosecuted for leaving hundreds of chicks to die in a lorry parked up for a week..thanks to a tip off ;)

Thats awful. My friend is a drop off/collection point for chickens in our area. I did think about getting some but then saw the state of her garden and changed my mind. Also I think the dogs would want to eat them

Sweetpea they will keep the slugs/snails and insect pests down however they are not discerning as to what vegetation they eat and will eat one of your cabbages in preference to a nettle.
