I found a page for free sunflower seeds, where they grow sunflowers for people with neuromuscular diseases, such as centronuclear.

If you contact them through the website: https://thebigsunflowerproject.wordpress.com they will add you to their sunflower map and send you some seeds.

But they are in need of seed donations if anyone has any spare sunflower seeds that you could send to them, it would be a huge help - they send thousands of seeds all over the world each year.

This year I am going to harvest my sunflower seeds and return them so they can use them next year.

I didn't want to put this in the 'freebies' sub-forum, as it would more than likely get missed!

    Thanks!

What a fantastic idea and a really good way to raise awareness about a rare illness. I'm going to join in and also send them some seeds. Thanks Kyle.

Did anyone apply for some seeds? Mine arrived today - going to really give them a good go this year.

Not done sunflowers for about 3 years now, but hoping to get some humungous ones :dancy:

I've still got some of "M"s seed from a few years back, but I think they're dwarf lop eared Welsh Sunflowers.

            Mine were Russian Giant :heehee:

I'm not applying for seeds because I picked up a packet of mixed varieties for 20p but, any surplus/harvest I'll be sending to the project

              That's great.

If anyone needs the email of the lady who does it (she has no funding for stamps, envelopes, etc.. so does everything from her own funding) just let me know!

              Cheers!

I'm using my own seeds as I got loads thanks to the T&M/VM giveaway! I'll send her some from my harvest later in the year. :blue thumb:

Do they take all sunflower seeds or just giant ones? I have a load of 'Irish Eyes' & 'Teddy Bear' sunflower seeds from Van Meuwen last year...
