Common Frog Jazmine, they normallly only sit in the sun when partly submerged otherwise they would shrivel up and die, it seems quite content there.:)

Lucky you. She'll sort out your slugs and snails for you, and she's a toad I think. Note the wide body and the position of the back legs. Its designed for crawling rather than jumping.

:wink: Hmm not sure my first thought is toad, but as Toads don't really sit in the water & usually have dry, lumpy bumpy skin not sure from your pic..! My frogs look like him too... One of my frogs..

Does he run or jump is another key... Toads run.. Here is a good link for toads....

Thankyou for your comments. It just sat still there for ages and didn't move when I went close to it to photograph. I have a froghouse just at the back of the pond so they are all made very welcome. I enjoy seeing them there :) It looked bigger than the frogs I normally see around the pond.

    Marley yours looks huge!!

Ok, we live and learn. she's a frog then (and given my reckon for being wrong, 'she' might be a 'he' - Its hard to judge from the pic but in the frog and toad world, I believe the females are usually considerably larger than the males, unless I'm wrong about that too:)

:) Clueless, that makes a change for the female to be larger than the male!

It is definitely a Common Frog as it has smooth skin, no paratoid gland where the eardrum would be and longer back legs than a Toad.

Although most Toads walk or run my Fire Bellied Toads have to be different and can jump up to 1ft.:)

this is a frog:gnthb: round pupils for a frog and smooth skin, slitty pupils for a toad with warty skin
very useful to have these in the garden

It didn't take long for a frog to settle in your pond, Kath, and it looks very contented. Others are bound to follow and perhaps next year you might be lucky and have them spawn, then you'll always have some.

Thanks everyone here. Kedi we have had the pond a long while but have just added a tiny waterfall which is settling in nicely so we do get lots of frogs!
This one looked different though and normally they jump off when I go near but he just sat there totally relaxed Will see if he is around today.
