I work as head gardener at a large private garden and we have a summer gardening job available for 6 months starting in April.
We found it quite difficult to get anyone for this job last year, we tried all the usual avenues; job centre, local paper, even the local horticultural college, but a pretty poor response all round.
So, in the hope of finding someone who is actually interested in gardening, I thought I'd see if GC could help out.

If you are interested, or you know of anyone who might be, please PM me for details.

The location is south Suffolk, close to Hadleigh.

My thanks to GC for their kind permission in allowing me to post this.

It is hard over here also, just to find someone, and not to have to watch their every move in case they pull out the wrong plant etc. did get a man this fall to help with the leaves. He seemed to like the work, hope he will be back again next fall.

Trunky, I know you said you tried your local "horticultural" college, but, did you extend that to local colleges/Uni's? Students there are often looking for some work and are willing and able to take instruction to supplement their meagre grants/loans :dunno:

One of my colleagues was from China and he did gardening/housekeeping duties for a local woman (despite his high status in his homeland: he wasn't too proud when it came to earning a few bob! Which was to his credit as a person!)
I'm beginning to worry at the frequency you post this particular video ... but, it really did "groove" with the music I am listening to right now :heehee: He's got the moves, don't you think?

Most students tend to be looking for part time jobs which will fit around their studies/ exams and so on.

Last year, we ended up taking on a Uni student who was ok, but he could only stay with us for just over 3 months, then he was off back to Uni at the beginning of September, when we were still quite busy.

We need someone who can work Monday to Friday, all day, for 6 months, from the beginning of April to the end of September. This doesn't really fit around Uni/College terms and timetables it seems.

We will probably give the local Uni and College a try though.

The trouble is it's the other side of the country and I take it that who ever took the job would have to find accommodation as, unless it's in the job?

I have about 20 or so friends on my Facebook feed left over from when I was at college in Edinburgh so some of them might have an interest :)

The job doesn't include accommodation Armandii, so admittedly it wouldn't really suit someone who doesn't live or have accommodation available locally.
Thanks for the link on Facebook folks, must admit I hadn't thought of that. Going to put the link on my page too. I'll be interested to see what response it brings. :dbgrtmb:

You never know Trunky, back in the 90's my job search had took me all over the country. I had popped into somewhere to ask for work on the offchance & they said they'd heard of a company looking to take people on in a village called Merriott. They asked if I knew the place, I said I live there:doh:
