Still time to plant now! - the old saying is "Plant on the shortest day, harvest on the longest"

I've planted so called "spring planting", garlic for three years now, first year was a great success, second and third a bit iffy, not really that good, they died off in June and regrew in autumn.

So I would try to get it planted ASAP.

Sorry to hear your recovery took a little longer than expected Rosie but, hopefully, you are fully functioning once more?

I'm in agreement with a-a: so, plant your bulbs on/around Dec 21st ... they'll get a good dose of frost/chill, which they like ... and should be ready for harvest June 21 - ish :) No need to wait until Spring to plant them up

OK, But what about the blizzards we are forecast to expect? It is throwing down the rain at the moment.

Put some in 4in pots in a sheltered part of the garden, if the soil is too wet.

They will fare better than we will ;)
Just make sure they will not be sitting in water after the rains have passed. Garlic thrives on a cold spell so don't worry about the cold/blizzards/temperature just so long as they are not water logged

Planting now is good. :blue thumb:

We plant ours in seed trays (individual cell trays) and start them off in the greenhouse. It's not necessary to do this but we get so many birds in the garden that they have the habit of pulling up garlic bulbs just after they are planted. We wait until they have formed some nice roots and then plant them out.
