    Anyone grown these?

I noticed an advert in the RHS magazine:

"These bold bright daisy blooms are just as beautiful as the tender varieties but able to stand cold winters outside. Extremely floriferous from May to November, excellent for cutting, happy in borders and containers."

Is it advertising hype or are they really hardy?

    I'm tempted.

I'm always tempted by the RHS fliers in The Garden ... price normally stops me just at the last moment!

"Resists light frosts" .... not sure they sound that good?, although that page then says "Plants will thrive in temperatures from -5º to +35ºC" ... "thrive at minus five" eh? Even "survive at minus five" will be touch and go for you or I, I reckon :(

Thanks Kristen, I needed someone to stop me spending another £20 on plants that will be one year wonders (you wonder where they went over-winter)

            Oh boy....[IMG]

These are shouting "Buy me! Buy me!"

Very notable dearth of info about them on the web, however ....... except from seed and plant purveyors!

Right, so that is what their real name is, Garvinea, thanks.
I bought a couple last spring as Gerbera, must admit after growing Gerbera years ago from seed and finding out how tender they were I was a bit suspicious.

But I assumed a lot of breeding had been done to introduce some hardyness.

I overwintered mine, fairly dry, in the greenhouse, frost free. They are now outside and flowering, although they never flowered anything like as prolifically as in the pictures.

They didn't look totally hardy to me and if only hardy to minus 5 its unlikely to survive most winters.

I brought one in 2009 and it died in the harsh winter when we got -4.2C, so don't even bother. I suppose you could say it's frost hardy if it survives down to -1C but it's not really hardy.
