We tried the first of the Autumn Crown today.

Mrs Trunky was in charge of preparation and cooking. She simply cut them into large wedges, leaving the skin on, tossed them in olive oil with some salt and pepper and roasted them.

I've only grown Jack o' Lantern and Butternut before and we both agreed the Autumn Crown compared favourably with both.

I'd say the flavour is on a par with Butternut for sweetness and this will probably improve as they age, the texture of the flesh I found preferable to the others, being a little more 'fibrous' than Butternut which I always feel has a rather bland texture.

The skins were still quite edible and tender after cooking and there was a good amount of edible flesh, with only a relatively small pocket containing the seeds in the centre, so very little was wasted. :)

Autumn Crown has also comprehensively out-performed Butternut this year in my garden. I planted six Autumn Crown and five Butternut plants, in the same plot and as you can see from my previous post (#521), Autumn Crown was far more productive.

The wind last night shredded all the leaves and stems so I'll be making the 'snip' this weekend, watch this space...

Oh that's a shame, you've done well to still have quite healthy looking green leaves on your pumpkin at this stage of the season :blue thumb:
