I Have 5 Hazelnut seeds, but I have no idea where to start with them.

Can anyone advise me of the best way to grow these? I dont know whether to soak them before planting, what time of year to plant them, or how long they might take to germinate

    Can anyone offer any advice?

    thanks

    Rick

    Are they ripe Rick?
    Its a bit early perhaps.
Anyway I would pot them up in a soil based compost or even just sharp sand and leave them outside all winter in a cold frosty position, hopefully next spring they will germinate.
Cover the pots with an old roof tile or similat to keep off excessive winter rain and keep out mice etc.

I find them all over my garden thanks to the Squirel. So you could plant them out like seeds in a drill 40/50mm deep and leave them, then next winter plant them where you want them.

thanks for the info Pete. I go them from the internet but they look brown so I suspect they are ripe.

Would I be better waiting until it gets a bit colder before potting them?

It seems a bit early to me for them to be ripe, but I would pot them straight away

You do realise you need to crack open the outer shell and sow the kernel inside I hope? Or am I teaching an aged relative how to eat embryo birds?
