Well I wouldn't describe our current and previous few winters as bitterly cold. Also what about in Melbourne at the moment, 42 deg C during the tennis. Sort of contradicts that quote.

Maybe they are talking about the USA right now?

This sort of 'incisive' report gets peddled out on a seemingly annual basis. We MUST ACT! ACT NOW!

Nothing ever changes, the 'talks' go on and on and on and I honestly can't see any weather pattern change that can't be attributed to government decisions. Flooding probably the most obvious. Summers are mixed, as are the winters. No real shock news there.

Think I'll just get on with whatever and worry when the sky falls in.

Slow news day, we still don't know any more than we did a year ago.

But they are right, solar hibernation would cause far more deaths and famine than global warming ever could, they just don't want everyone to go :runforhills::runforhills::runforhills::yikes:

I think it just once again goes to prove that nobody actually knows what's happening. I'm all in favour of clever people trying to understand nature, but peddling their unproven theories as absolute fact is just silly really.

I remember back in the 1980s, they said the British climate would be more like that of North Africa by now, and most of us would have shrivelled up unless we wore foil overalls to protect us from the radiation.

Is it that by 2020 our climate will be comparable to that of Jupiter?

They're trying to compare current trends with the Maunder Minimum, which is the worse case scenario in the last 1,000 years. There have been a number of other minimums, some of them 'supposedly' caused by volcanic activity - such as the Dalton Minimum 200 years ago.

We know that our climate, here in the UK, has been affected by the movement of the Jet Stream but whether that's caused by another Maunder Minimum is another possible factor.

When these minimums have occurred it is thought to have caused extremes of weather and Oz is currently getting some extremes - as is South America.

The effect that the production of Carbon Dioxide has on all this is negligible and governments need to concentrate more on how to cope with any extremes (such as our flooding) and stop spouting on about Global Warning being caused (or even affected) by us. This Maunder Minimum scare will only result in them wanting to increase taxes - for them to spend on stupid ideas.

Come on, Government, get your finger out, improve our infrastructure and get some more nuclear power stations built before the lights go out!

Unfortunately Shiney, unless your name is David M Rothschild or Zac Goldsmith, then I don't think anybody in government will be particularly interested in your advice, they seem quite happy with the current arrangement if you ask me.
Another thing, what the hell is David Cameron doing employing bankers as his climate change advisors anyway?? I'd love to know how those conversations go....although I can guess.
Cameron: "how are we going to save the country from climate change then Rothschild?"
Rothschild: "just tax the people of this country to the point of bankruptcy, then they won't be able to afford to use energy at all"
Cameron: "good thinking Rothschild, lets do that!"
I think I'm going to order Rothschilds book on climate change today, I need a good laugh :snork::snork:
