I have two young bushes fruiting for the first time and had both covered with a heath robinson assembly of canes and netting to keep the birds and butterflies off. The bushes are shooting up and fruiting with this years shoots growing through the netting or getting bent down inside the netting..
So, project today was to knock something up that half does the job and can be used for other plants if needed and again for the goos googs next year.
After ripping up some pine and using a few staples and screws I have a result.
One more to do another day and this one I am planning to make a tad smaller so as to fit inside the larger one for storage.
Hows that for a cunning plan. robert

My Gooseberry is in its 2nd year and i have 2 gooseberries this year, hoping for more next year,

I have got all my fruits covered against birds, as last year, the first year my currant bushes had fruit, they stripped them bare .

Dont forget though Capney we have to keep an eye out for the Gooseberry Sawfly, he must be about due,

Robert, if you have enough space in the garden, why not erect a fruit cage and shove everything in it?:D:gnthb:

    Hi Capney
I have covered my raspberries, i have them in a pot , but i think it would work in the ground if they are close together,

i pushed bamboo canes round the circumfrence bought the tops together with a holder ,the same as making a wigwam for beans, and went round it with netting, safe and secure from the birds,:thumb:

I wouldnt mind the birds having a few but they eat them all, and i spent £10 Tuesday on fat balls etc .:skp:
