I am thinking ahead now toward the end of the year, working on the basis that I am too late to do anything with it now.

This is a legacy of me being in hospital, so that will give an indication firstly how long it is taking us to square things up (not easy when you are disabled, even with the help of a wonderful woman at my side!). In short, at the back of the garden we had a lavatera and a loganberry and between the two of them they went nuts whilst I was incapacitated, coming out from the fence a good six to eight feet I reckon. Earlier this year, we hacked the lot - there was no point trimming it, as anything beyond the outer edges was just thick stems anyway, so we went the whole hog and back to the ground with the lot.

The hibiscus that was buried among it all has come back (doubt I will see flowers this year, but at least it is growing) but the grass (I can't call it a lawn) is utterly badgered. I have a scarifier with a knife blade drum that I am planning on going to town with on the affected area (don't think I could handle a rotovator to be honest) and then apply compost before sowing grass seed. I am thinking early October? Question is, what grass seed?

The stuff I got online has done really well. Lovely fine blades.

Buying grass seed online - a recommendation

They do charge a lot for delivery if you only want a small amount, but if you want a garden-sized area then it's free delivery and they're reasonably priced. Plus good quality seed.

Thanks @Graham B - I will look properly at those tomorrow (just about to go to bed).

I might be onto a little bit of a winner as my neighbour is in need of some grass seed as well. so we could order together and reduce the delivery cost :)
