It is beyond words to see what is happening to those poor people. I have already volunteered transport/evacuation services via my employer, and am waiting for the phone to ring. Indeed, I would be happy to do whatever I can to help in some small way.

One thing is for sure, there are some VERY serious questions needing answered about the building itself, and the alleged involvement of a domestic appliance.

A number of people are offering rooms/sofas/etc., for those who now find themselves homeless - the kind of people who put the Great into Great Britain

Yet, I was just hearing a news report where a resident being interviewed is now having to weigh up the pro's and con's of such generosity because he is concerned that by accepting such an offer of help would actually *hinder* his potential for the local authority to rehome him and his family!

As if he didn't have enough to worry about :frown:

Sadly, his assessment of the behavior of local authorities seems fair and accurate to me.

Things don't get any better for Sadiq Khan, do they?

Well blow me down with a feather! (They are the best words I can come up with) what an utter utter bloody disaster, this is just awful, I just don't know what we are going to have to deal with next .
This is 2017, how on gods earth can this happen, health & ruddy safety is on to every single thing yet we can have tower blocks in London with no proper/ or enough escape routes :thud:.
I have said for years that the said cladding which was attached to the building is a bad idea & in the event of a fire it would rip up the inside of a building very quickly, sandwiching itself between the building & the cladding, if I, little old me from Suffolk can work it out then why can't others?? :yikes:.
I just can't imagine being in that building with it on fire, how utterly terrifying
On a positive note, although I'm left with a feeling of great sadness I also have a feeling of immense pride, our emergency services have again rallied, the people of Great Britain have offered help, assistance, rooms, food, clothes etc etc.....such kindness. Rant over

Aye, we have yet again seen the best of Britain at one of the worst times. Shame the political elite never appreciate fully the importance of these emergency services are.

I can't believe that there are still pockets of fire in that tower - the news has just shown one that is still going quite vigorously; you'd have thought it would have ran out of fuel by now.

                        I
I tend to agree FC, it is difficult to think of what might be left in that building that can still burn, only those that know about this kind of fire could probably answer that question.
The heat generated by this chimney was probably unbelievable, and as such, things we think of as noncombustible, just burn.

I can only assume that the cladding was specified and is passed as suitable, fire regs are usually pretty strict.

The News people seem to be going after the building company involved, at this early stage I think it is best that no speculation goes on.

Was it the young boy saying that it was the only building to be refurbished and it wasn't an accident rather a plot to get the council to demolish the high rises to make way for the rich.

Btw that's not my view at all. All I know is, it's awful what's happened, my thought are with everyone involved. I take my hat off to the fire and ambulance services
