Thanks Mum - I don't know if we are having haggis tonight or not yet as we are yet to go shopping, but in truth I doubt we will as its not easy to get decent haggis down here.

What about those of us that are exactly 12.5% Scottish, approx 12.5% Irish, the rest some incalculable mix of Yorky and Northumbrian? Do we get any haggis?

When I was little, my dad had me believe that a haggis was a funny animal that lived in the mountains of Scotland. Its left legs were shorter than its right legs, so it could only run anticlockwise round a mountain.

Much more recently than that I saw a documentary about the changing trend in tourism to the Scottish highlands, often being corporate away-days these days, with people who rarely leave the city of London, coming up en-masse. One landowner has capitalised on this in a novel way, by leading a haggis hunt. His staff do up haggises with some feathers to make them look like a weird bird, and hide them in the strategic places around the estate. Then all the city boys go out and shoot them.

We had a good night with the strangest haggis of all. Sweet and sour haggis, this was a real different way of having it. Thought it would not work, but it did and went down well with Sake too.
