I see that Meghan doesn't like the fact that she was photographed in Toronto.

Does she think that stepping back from royal duties will somehow magically make the press disappear?

At the moment the UK press have an 'understanding' with the Royal family - they will not be too intrusive - eg. mainly staying away during hol's for example - well, I'm afraid that 'understanding' has been given up - along with the HRH titles.

    Not a good move IMHO.

They should pay the costs of their security - not the UK or Canada...

I agree about their security costs but what really puzzles me is that people can't just land here and become a resident without going through some kind of immigration process! So, do these "ordinary" folk need to apply to come and live here?

I think the 'residency' bit is a worldwide thing, ie, under 183 days and you don't need residency. It is like that for EU countries and when I worked for the diamond mine in West Africa (based in Aylesbury as Expat Personnel) I had to keep detailed records of the guys going to Guinea, detailed down to counting hours of plane flights. This all depends on who you pay tax to ... our guys paid NO UK tax because they stayed in Guinea for the longer duration.

My thought on it as I thought I saw something about half and half and residency. Just saying ...

I have no problem with what they are doing, bearing in mind Canada has no problem with it.

That said, I think they wanted their cake and eat it, but are apparently now on their own.

They knew entirely what they were getting into when they did this, they want to be ordinary, that aint going to happen unless they become recluses.
But if they do that, they wont earn any money.;)

So they are not really so much coming here to live but going to be visiting for 1/2 the year. I can't figure out why they didn't go to California. She is from the states and the weather there is even more pleasant than B.C.

Why do people choose to live in Iceland or the Scandinavian countries where it is bitterly cold? @Sandy Ground can comment here. Or extremely hot countries? Or countries where women are less than second-class citizens? In the US, California would be on the bottom of my list along with Florida. Would go for New England. I have lived in 4 States and visited many so based on experience.
