    Hi all,

I've recently got into a habit of growing trees from seeds and one genus is locust trees of which I have managed to successfully germinate Gleditsia and Black Locust with hopefully some Bristly Locust on the way.

My question is: I've been trying to get my hands on some Robinia Viscosa, or 'Clammy Locust' since the flowers are just beautiful when the tree is mature enough to produce them. I know that it does grow within the EU but is practically non-existent when it comes to being able to buy or even find areas when it grows. So... has anyone ever seen it grow successfully in the UK? Or ever been able to find a seed producer for it!?

    ...Robinia neomexicana is equally pretty.

    Thanks! :)

I'm tending to think you need to buy from online perhaps from the USA.
A lot of these dont set viable seed in the UK.

Yeah, I found a website that is based in Russia that will be collecting seeds from the Viscosa later this month. Though, it seems I would be hard-pressed to be able to import the tree/seeds from outside the EU due to the tight controls around the importation of non-native plant species. I might just have to dream!

I decided to do a little researching to see what kind of problems I might have. Turns out that Robinia is prohibited from being imported from outside of the EU, same for Salix (willow). This is because Robinia has a marmite effect since its very hardy plant and in certain places it's considered invasive, however, I haven't had this problem with locust trees!
