    !
    Google says
"Yes, Solomon's Seal (Polygonatum) is largely poisonous to humans and pets, especially the berries and leaves, causing vomiting and digestive upset; however, its starchy root (rhizome) and tender young shoots are edible when prepared correctly, traditionally used for food and medicine, but caution is key due to potential confusion with other plants like False Solomon's Seal."

Tromboncino squash has beautiful hanging trumpet flowers and Crown Prince flowers have a lovely scent.

I often stick odd veg between my flowers - parsley chervil dill and carrots look very ornamental as do chives and leeks when in flower. I think I posted a pic of salad rocket in flower last year and kales are very pretty when in flower. The purple or variegated sage looks good too.

I often stick surplus annuals in the veg plot, so snapdragons, marigolds, sunflowers, ipomoea, nicotiana and sweet peas.

I'm not sure if anyone has said this already but if you make an intricate display of edibles, you won't want to spoil it by eating them. Much better to dot them about bearing in mind that pansy flowers or every part of the nasturtium is edible. Artichokes are beautiful architectural plants but if you pick the artichokes, you miss the wonderful blue flowers. That being said, the any farmers are particularly fond of them too.I
Interesting note. Autocorrect sometimes has a smutty alternative to nasturtium . Boringly, this time it only offered bacterium.

I have gotten fruit yes. They were originally bought as basically cuttings and I had issai fruit in the first year on a plant that was only a couple of feet high. I've heard they should be a few years old before they start fruiting though. I had kens red and red giant from the same order, but the issai fruits without a pollinator partner. I just have issai and another unknown green cultivar now and they fruit but grow so dense that I don't nornally see any flowers.

cardoon/artichoke seeds are unfortunately bitter, but sunflower seeds are good. i havent had luck with them though as the heads seem to rot after seed set. I think if you raise them indoors early and plant them out so they flower in early summer youll get a good harvest.

Ive grown amaranth and its a gorgeous giant flower that dries well and has tasty seeds, I can send some seeds of mixed orange and red ones if anyone wants. But theyre rather labour intensive and ive only gotten 50 grams or so each season .... !! so not exactly sustainance

other seed crops can be ornamental, poppies, flax. poppies are best grown for the latex though :rolleyespink::biggrin:

the advantage of dried flowers is each year you get more and more accumulating :rolleyespink:

last year i also managed to dry some cooked mini pumpkins which made really cute decorations

Sunflower seeds make quite nice microgreens, I used ones for birdseed, much cheaper! Batchelors dried peas are the best for pea shoots.

All my plants are edible but I wouldn't say they are decorative and some have never fruited eg my figs
Some plants just constantly die eg my cranberries
