    Hello everyone,

A newbie here, not only on this forum but a newbie at gardening.
I have committed a sinful act which I am kicking myself for and I am hoping to get some feedback.

I have a 100sq2m lawn and I bought Evergreen all in 1 (large bag which covers 400sqm). I also bought a spreader and set it to the recommended setting.
I went up and down the lawn but the spreader was finished so I kept topping it up. When I got to the end I realised I have used the WHOLE bag which was meant to cover 400sq2 on a 100sq2m.

Just 24 hour later, this is the result. I think I killed the lawn but I need some feedback from someone who has experience.

    Thanks
    Kit

Hello and welcome to the forum kit :blue thumb:

It does look like you have done some damage there. The grass might be OK in the less black areas. One good thing is you have definitely killed the weeds.

I guess if the black spots are dead, what I am hoping for is someone to advise when at what I need to do for reseeding.
I did the damage on Tuesday night so when I should cut the lawn and when should reseed?

I have been watering it down for the last 2 nights.

    What a plonker I am!!

Black is probably dead moss, as evergreen complete is fertiliser, weedkiller and mosskiller.
Does not look like scorch which is over application of fertiliser, would take longer than 24 hours to act and would go brown not black.
It is possibly chemical damage from the weedkiller element as a 4 times overdose is significant.
Keep watering profusely and then get a springbok rake in about a weeks time and rake out dead material. That will then give you a good idea as to what actual damage has been done.
If chemical damage you need to wait at least a month for evergreen to move through soil, before thinking of re-seeding.

Oh dear. What to do kind of depends on exactly what you put down.

From the pictures it looks a bit like iron burn from moss killer, which is less of a problem than fertiliser burn.

Did it have additional moss killer in it, or was it just a weed 'n' feed? Difficult to tell for sure from the pics.

You can't normally mow for a few days after application (and shouldn't mow for a few days before).

If you have watered it well the grass might be OK ... but if it is it will grow mighty quickly with that much fertiliser, so you will be mowing it frequently all summer to get it under control, but it may look fantastically green all Summer :)

The application, in the first picture, looks to be a bit uneven? If that is the case that will show all Summer too I'm afraid. Best bet is to apply half front-to-back and the other half crosswise left-to-right, so that evens it up. If your spreader needs more than two passes then repeat front-to-back and left-to-right but with half a width overlap of the spreader.

Do the instructions say anything about reseeding? Often the chemical in selective weedkiller is not suitable for young grass seedlings, and I don't know how long, if at all, the weedkiller component will persist

    Hello and welcome gardenflop

The experts may disagree, but I'd just cover it in sharp sand (not completely covered, the grass should still show through). There's enough green grass left for it to quickly take up the slack, and in my experience, grass find it easier to spread if the surface is loose, which sands provides. The sand is also an inhospitable place for moss, so it keeps that down too.

I think given a couple of weeks, you wont even be able to tell it happened.
