Usually level out at around 16ft I find,:biggrin: at that height they tend to branch out. But it is quite a variable plant and can branch much lower.
    Branching takes place after flowering.
    Cordyline australis.

You can see this one above the ridge of my greenhouse.

I once had two of them. They stood in half barrels either side of my front gate. I thought they would just stay a spikey bush. I didn't realise they grew upwards. Mine grew up about a foot. It then covered itself in side shoots. It must have died because I don't have it anymore. I think a lack of water might of had something to do with it.

Down here there seems to be no limit to their height. Dracaena Avenues everywhere:) we all seem to grow these palms, part and parcel of the scenery here in Cornwall

Gail, they grow quickly in the open ground.

Easy to make them branch out......cut the stem at any point and they will make multiple shoots.
I allow them to grow to about 10' to 15' then cut them back. I have done this a few times now.
If you want multiple stems then cut back almost to the base, hey presto!

In pots they will stay smaller for a long time

Gary, you are more likely to lose them if you overwater or the containers didnt drain well enough :). Also will suffer in severe winters
