OK here goes, Keen gardner, of some years standing (and a few sitting down watchng it with a beer) Experienced in some aspects of horticulture and a complete imbicile in others. Answer to the name David or any of its permutations. I have enjoyed growing and improving my lawn, have a nice stock of Perennials and Bonsai as well as 7 different hardy Fucshias. Recently we bought a new bungalow with a 10 times bigger garden and will move in soon. I have already started to get on top of 2 rather neglected and weed ridden lawns. Chemicals im afraid but Dan D lion will always return if you just weed him out. There is also a massive amount of Selfheal which although looks nice and bees love it, it will have to go. I will find space in amongst the woodland and try to create a habitat for bees and butterflies and Selfheal will be there along with lots similar other stuff. Im even contemplating actually putting in some nettles!!!. Also in the lawn is lesser trefoil and ribwort. 4 in 1 attack coming up. I also found a clump of red clover being slowly throttled by couch grass in a border. The grass is gone and the clover has been moved. Fingers crossed it will thrive.

I will listen to any advice on maitaining the 2 apple trees, a pear and what looks like 2 wild plum trees with no fruit. This is where my inexperience lies. There is also a vast array of shrubs that need taming, some I recognise and a few I dont.

I recently joined a rival Forum but found it cliquey with quite a few Points of View type angry people. I found Gardners Corner and am happily giving it a go after reading through some Forum threads and finding it completely different in a nice way.

We live in the North East of England. Will post some general piccies soon.

    Dave

Thanks for the welcoming so far.

Once ive finished with the decorating and we get moved in I can launch into the garden. Up to now ive just been nibbling at it. Removed some despised Laurel bushes, weeded a couple of border areas to create beds for the perennial cuttings and divisions I took in the spring. Delphiniums, Phlox, Purple Loosetrife, Echineacea, Lobelia, Fuchsias, Penstemons. All have taken well.

Taking a few 'before' piccies is a good idea Beckie, I tend to launch into a job without thinking, only coming up for air when its done:hapfeet:

I will tie a knot in my neck so I remember my camera in future :rolleyespink:

                Hi Dave, and welcome!

It sounds as if you have quite a lot of experience, in quite a few different areas. Hopefully it won't take long for that general "nowse" to cross over to fruit tree maintenance!

                - have to say, that made me laugh! I'm not too fond of them either, but I've got about 170 metres of them, in the form of a hedge.:yikes: Don't tempt me...!

Looking forward to getting to know you over the coming weeks, and maybe to get some tips on propagation!!:dbgrtmb:

SAM_2035.JPG SAM_2037.JPG SAM_2038.JPG SAM_2039.JPG A few pics for anyone interested in snooping around the garden. When we got the keys the fences were hidden behind masses of unkempt Laurel and Forsythia. Space for my first greenhouse is next to the lean-to workshop, which will land before year end. Last pic is the front. The fence is about 12 feet back through the Laurel and Rhododendrons. After the recent rain the lawn is looking much greener if a little patchy. Work in progress!
