Greetings from Sheffield  I am a novice gardener. Just discovered my new hobby since last year due to lockdown and being furloughed. We knocked down an old shed that has not been used for years (since before we moved it) and we cleared an overgrown area behind it. After getting rid of all the stinging nettles, the fun bit was to dig all the roots out. I just couldn't believe the network of roots that we removed. It was September and I felt that if we left the ground bare, we would struggle with weeds next year. So, I poured down a lots of grass seeds and water them meticulously. And with a beginner's luck, we've got a patch of grass that doesn't look too bad at all.

That is my little story. How is everyone doing today? I am making plan of what nice plants to plant in the garden. Hubby is happy with whatever I decide

        Welcome welcome.

So you found one of the top three plant-based repellants against evildoers on your property:

        - a field of stinging nettles (at least 2m tall)
        - blackberry/brambles with loooots of thorns
        - thick rose bushes

Thank you for the warm welcome  I have found an old pic from July last year. It's a pic of the old shed / workshop from 2 previous owners ago. It was quite a big shed about 20 ft depth x 14 ft wide. Behind the back panel was a mountain of dirt covered with stinging nettles and rubbish that people have chucked. The back piece of land wasn't fenced off. I will take a pic of the back garden later when the weather is a bit nicer.

Hi again. I've just been outside to take some pics. The little lawn does not look too bad at all. Obviously, it's still work in progress. There were lots of rubble under the dirt that we have removed and we haven't managed to get rid off all of them just yet. Also, we've found this beautiful stone pot. I have planted something, but I forgot completely what it was called. The plant has a beautiful pink berries last autumn. Does anyone know what it is called by any chance?

Lastly, does anyone have got a suggestion of what I should do with the chipping bark area? Your input is greatly appreciated :blue thumb:

You could make a patio if it's joined to the house. Not sure of the plant, is it evergreen or does it lose its leaves in the autumn? Can you do a close up of the leaves please?
