I've never had a garden before and researched myself senseless before planting anything. I'd love to hear all your experienced advice and learn from my mistakes!

Welcome Tephie, I sometimes make the same mistakes each season, either sowing/planting too early or too late......It's all part of the fun.

Pics and your hope for the garden would help, then the experts on here will help you.

        Hi,

Its not just down to the advice you get or read about, its equally down to your garden conditions, soil, exposure, sunlight and how you tend things, and then how the seasons progress as that can also affect the same plants differently each year.

Some years you get great results , next year you wonder why its not as good, thats gardening ! :)

What have you planted or are looking to grow ?

          Hi John,

What a lovely welcome for me from you all. I'm still fumbling my way around how to reply so please bear with me...I only started gardening when I went into lockdown on my partner's insistence in late February. I didn't know a peony from a sycamore tree. So I read and read and read and managed to confuse myself into oblivion so decided just to jump in...

I have 2 tiny garden areas - The one I'm concentrating on is north/east 5m long x 1m deep - I call it a border - with only a palm tree at the corner. (The other one south/west already has raspberry canes and a honeysuckle.) In all, I've started cornflowers, nerines, the buddleia, a clematis montana and poppies. Also in the back border area sweet peas, more poppies, sunflowers and ranunculi, some in pots. I've planted the clematis near the palm tree so that it will climb it - which it's happily doing but I care most about the buddleia as it's really to be the main feature of this tiny border. It's plum in the middle of it. I've resisted planting anything else of substance because of space.

I dare say I may have bitten off more than I can chew but as I'm not on a diet that's fine! I hope my boring you all helps with the backdrop of my efforts.
