Hello from a newbie

Hi everyone,
My name is Julie and I live in East Sussex and for the last 3 years have been trying to make a garden out of what used to be a farmyard and paddock.
If the constant battle to dig anywhere for planting doesn't kill you (most of the immediate garden has smelt from the local ironworks buried underneath) the chalk and lime used to break up the clay over many years coupled with the constant prevailing wind often puts an end to most planting ideas.
Never mind life would be too easy if we all stuck a spade or fork in the ground and had the perfect soil.
